I was introduced to this place by a gourmet friend and made a day trip to Karuizawa just for Yukawatan. I had a wonderfully satisfying experience from start to finish, just as I had hoped. We shared the eel and foie gras terrine, and I ordered a non-alcoholic pairing that complemented each dish perfectly. Each drink was thoughtfully crafted with herb infusions, making every serving... (The main dish of duck was transferred to my companion's plate, and there were originally two pieces of meat!) It was a great meal! Less

I made a reservation for the seasonal omakase course through TableCheck and visited yesterday, enjoying a worry-free experience.[Reservation & System]• Reservation via TableCheck in advance[Top Recommendation]Iwana (Char) Meunière (Specialty) - Among all the dishes, the quality of the **"fish dish"** stood out remarkably.1. Perfect pairing of ingredients and sauce: The fragrant char combined with a tangy sauce full of vegetables creates a wonderful harmony. The acidity eliminates any fishy odor and enhances the umami flavor.2. Addictive quality: There’s a surprising addictiveness that makes you keep eating even when you’re full. The texture of the vegetables and the flavor of the sauce continuously stimulate your appetite.[Conclusion]Every dish is of high quality, but the "Iwana Meunière" is especially recommended. This restaurant transcends the French category, making it a place you’ll want to visit again. It’s perfect for special occasions or as a treat for someone special. Less
The moment I was guided to a special seat overlooking the lush greenery of the highlands through the glass, I was certain this experience would be extraordinary. What first amazed me was the quantity and precision of the amuse-bouche. The moment I was guided to a special seat overlooking the lush greenery of the highlands through the glass, I was certain this experience would be extraordinary. What first amazed me was the quantity and precision of the amuse-bouche. The appetizers were presented in a wine glass-shaped dish, a spoonful served in a bean-shaped vessel, and a fragrant soup poured into a plate that showcased the natural rings of a tree—each one meticulously crafted like a small architectural piece, revealing new discoveries with every bite. The entrée, "Resonance of Carp and Cucumber," featured carp wrapped in translucent cucumber rolls, adorned with flower petals. True to its name, the dish delicately harmonized the ingredients. The following Shinano trout, cooked to perfection, surprised me with its melt-in-your-mouth texture. The most impressive dish of the day was the pan-fried Iwana (char). The skin was perfectly crispy and fragrant, while the flesh remained tender and moist. The aroma of butter combined with the refined umami of the Iwana made me pause with my chopsticks the moment it touched my palate. The rich sauce paired beautifully with the crispy skin, making it the standout dish of the course. Honestly, it was the most memorable dish I had that day.The roasted duck, with its beautifully rosy cross-section, was a luxurious dish that offered different expressions with two types of sauce. The wine pairing was also remarkable, ranging from Japanese Chardonnay and Pinot Gris to Etna Rosso, perfectly complementing the temperature and depth of the dishes. The dessert, a delightful ensemble of peach and tarragon, concluded the meal with a fragrant finish. Both the cuisine and the ambiance were meticulously calculated, creating an "architectural experience." I especially crave the pan-fried Iwana again—this is a place I must revisit whenever I come to Karuizawa! ✨ #BrestonCourt #Yukawatan #KaruizawaFrench #Iwana #Tabelog Less

Instead of being seated immediately indoors, we first enjoyed small dishes outside, taking in the fresh air of Karuizawa—savoring delicious bites little by little.Dining in the forest during a summer evening, feeling the sounds of nature and the gentle breeze, was incredibly pleasant and truly showcased the essence of Karuizawa. It was so stylish! The interior also exudes a calm atmosphere, with the greenery outside the windows becoming part of the dining scenery. One dish that particularly caught my eye was the "Vegetable Bouquet." Seasonal vegetables, beautifully arranged like a real bouquet, captivated me the moment it was placed on the table. It was delightful to enjoy the distinct flavors and textures of each vegetable. Then there was the "Eel and Foie Gras Terrine." This luxurious combination of eel and foie gras was rich yet perfectly balanced. It was a dish that made me want to savor it slowly with wine. Even though I opted for a non-alcoholic drink, the mocktail was stylish and delicious too.The main dish, duck, was tender, allowing for a delightful exploration of flavors through the sauce. For dessert, we had seasonal peaches. The juicy sweetness of the peaches combined with the refreshing aroma of tarragon was a perfect ending to the course. Not only the exquisite dishes but also the serene forest scenery, the fresh air, and the leisurely pace of the meal are what make this place special.I felt a sense of luxury that is hard to find in urban restaurants, thanks to the unique charm of Karuizawa.I highly recommend this spot for days when you want to take your time and enjoy a meal. Ah, I am grateful for such a luxurious experience! Less
This summer, I stayed in Karuizawa and finally visited the restaurant I had been wanting to try, "Breston Court Yukawatan". This summer, I stayed in Karuizawa and finally visited the restaurant I had been wanting to try, "Breston Court Yukawatan". It has won the Tabelog Award Bronze multiple times and has been selected as one of the top 100 French restaurants in the East. Nestled quietly in the forest of Karuizawa, this house restaurant gives you a special feeling from the moment you arrive, as if you are visiting a secret restaurant in the woods. The concept here is "water game meat". You can enjoy dishes that utilize local ingredients, such as river fish raised in the clear streams of Shinshu. We started with an amuse-bouche served in the forest. The presentation, which allows you to feel the nature and air of Karuizawa, was wonderful, and it was impressive how they provided an experience that included not just the food but also the space and time. The scenery was truly healing, quiet, and calming—just perfect! The dishes we enjoyed that day included: - Bonito and cucumber resonance - Kid goat's le dos - Shinano snow trout mi-cuit - Vegetable bouquet - Eel and foie gras terrine - Rainbow trout vapeur with river shrimp sauce - Roasted duck with duo sauce - Peach and tarragon ensemble We also requested the "vegetable bouquet" and "eel and foie gras terrine" as additions. At Yukawatan, you can customize your course by adding dishes based on your mood and preferences, creating a unique dining experience. The dishes featuring river fish were particularly memorable, with the Shinano snow trout mi-cuit and the rainbow trout vapeur showcasing the blessings of the river in a delicate French style. The added vegetable bouquet was beautifully arranged like a flower bouquet with seasonal vegetables, making it a vibrant dish for the eyes as well. The eel and foie gras terrine was a delightful dish that beautifully combined the rich flavors of both ingredients, making it a great addition to our meal. The main dish, roasted duck, was perfectly cooked. With two types of sauce, it offered a delightful variation in flavor, keeping us engaged until the very last bite. For dessert, we had the peach and tarragon ensemble. The juiciness of the peach combined with the herbal aroma created a summery dessert that left a lasting impression. It was visually stunning as well. Each dish was not only beautiful but also combined aromas, textures, and ingredients, creating a cohesive course that included the nature of Karuizawa. This restaurant was more than just a place to enjoy delicious French cuisine; it was an experience of dining in the forest of Karuizawa that will remain in my memory. I found myself wanting to plan my visit to Karuizawa around a reservation at this restaurant. After our meal, we stopped by the nearby Karuizawa Kogen Church for the Summer Candle Night and strolled through the enchanting forest. It was a memorable summer night that began with gourmet food and ended with the natural beauty of Karuizawa. This course was truly the epitome of romance! I highly recommend it and can't wait to go back! It was a wonderful encounter with an amazing restaurant. Less
I want to visit Yukawatan at least once a year. We enjoyed the amuse-bouche on the terrace outside the restaurant, then moved inside for the appetizers. The course menu has changed to allow for optional additions, and since I love to eat, I kept the previous full course intact, adding options except for the large whole fish dish meant for one. Each dish was special and delicious. The service was outstanding, making for a wonderful dining experience. I’m looking forward to my next visit!
We celebrated our anniversary here as a couple. Although it started pouring rain in the evening, we began our meal on the outdoor terrace. We stayed dry and warm thanks to the heated kotatsu! I was seated at an outdoor terrace, surrounded by beautiful greenery and dappled sunlight, which set a special tone right from the start with the amuse-bouche.I opted for both the alcohol pairing and the non-alcohol pairing. Each dish was impressively crafted, showcasing the ingredients' natural flavors. From the river fish that embodies the essence of Karuizawa to goat and venison, every plate was delicious. The cuisine is refined, relying on high-level techniques rather than flamboyance. In addition to the course, I could also order extra items, and I chose the recommended specialty dish, the grilled Iwana (Japanese char). The cooking and sauce were perfect, making it an incredibly tasty dish. However, the fish was quite large, about 50 cm, and served whole, which was a bit too much for two people to finish. While the flavor was outstanding, it's wise to consider the number of diners and portion size when ordering. The wines in the alcohol pairing harmonized beautifully with each dish. The combinations, especially with the delicate fish dishes, were thoughtfully curated, enhancing the lingering flavors of the food.Notably, the non-alcohol pairing was exceptional. Each drink was original and clearly designed to complement the dishes rather than just serve as a substitute. The pairings were outstanding, making it entirely reasonable to choose the non-alcohol option at this restaurant. The service was top-notch, as expected from Hoshino Resorts, and I felt that the overall experience, including the food, pairings, service, and location, was of very high quality.I definitely plan to return when I visit Karuizawa again. Thank you! Less
