This summer, I stayed in Karuizawa and finally visited the restaurant I had been wanting to try, "Breston Court Yukawatan". It has won the Tabelog Award Bronze multiple times and has been selected as one of the top 100 French restaurants in the East. Nestled quietly in the forest of Karuizawa, this house restaurant gives you a special feeling from the moment you arrive, as if you are visiting a secret restaurant in the woods. The concept here is "water game meat". You can enjoy dishes that utilize local ingredients, such as river fish raised in the clear streams of Shinshu. We started with an amuse-bouche served in the forest. The presentation, which allows you to feel the nature and air of Karuizawa, was wonderful, and it was impressive how they provided an experience that included not just the food but also the space and time. The scenery was truly healing, quiet, and calming—just perfect! The dishes we enjoyed that day included: - Bonito and cucumber resonance - Kid goat's le dos - Shinano snow trout mi-cuit - Vegetable bouquet - Eel and foie gras terrine - Rainbow trout vapeur with river shrimp sauce - Roasted duck with duo sauce - Peach and tarragon ensemble We also requested the "vegetable bouquet" and "eel and foie gras terrine" as additions. At Yukawatan, you can customize your course by adding dishes based on your mood and preferences, creating a unique dining experience. The dishes featuring river fish were particularly memorable, with the Shinano snow trout mi-cuit and the rainbow trout vapeur showcasing the blessings of the river in a delicate French style. The added vegetable bouquet was beautifully arranged like a flower bouquet with seasonal vegetables, making it a vibrant dish for the eyes as well. The eel and foie gras terrine was a delightful dish that beautifully combined the rich flavors of both ingredients, making it a great addition to our meal. The main dish, roasted duck, was perfectly cooked. With two types of sauce, it offered a delightful variation in flavor, keeping us engaged until the very last bite. For dessert, we had the peach and tarragon ensemble. The juiciness of the peach combined with the herbal aroma created a summery dessert that left a lasting impression. It was visually stunning as well. Each dish was not only beautiful but also combined aromas, textures, and ingredients, creating a cohesive course that included the nature of Karuizawa. This restaurant was more than just a place to enjoy delicious French cuisine; it was an experience of dining in the forest of Karuizawa that will remain in my memory. I found myself wanting to plan my visit to Karuizawa around a reservation at this restaurant. After our meal, we stopped by the nearby Karuizawa Kogen Church for the Summer Candle Night and strolled through the enchanting forest. It was a memorable summer night that began with gourmet food and ended with the natural beauty of Karuizawa. This course was truly the epitome of romance! I highly recommend it and can't wait to go back! It was a wonderful encounter with an amazing restaurant.
