Now's the time to plan your Friday lunch around the meatball sub at @ilbraccorestaurant. Our sandwich scribe and American hero @nickrallo recently listed five great meatball sandwiches in Dallas for the @d_magazine website, and I had to check his work. This is incredible stuff. Great sesame-covered bread (made in house),... More

How do you celebrate when your birthday is on a Monday and it's 106 outside? Duck out of work at lunchtime, order chilaquiles at @tacoyvino, and consume rosé until the heat doesn't feel so bad anymore.

Got to try Walkers' for the first time, including the Gorgonzola burger that has everyone melting, some wonderful preps of seasonal veggies, vodka-battered onion rings, and cavatelli as chewy as tteokbokki. This was also the very last steak I tried in Dallas for our October issue of the magazine, which will be all about steaks...from good to well done.... More

There are a LOT of Dallas steakhouses that are less good and fun than the @easyslidertx $48 steak night on the first Sunday of the month. Bringing back that old school Texas ranch steak night. I'll be back a few times a year.

I think this ridiculously crisp milanesa @puertococina_ is my sign from the food gods that it's time to go on a torta tour. Topped with avocado and serrano, but it's all about that crunch, guys.

Going live on our website in just a few minutes: fresh reviews of four top Dallas restaurants. Featuring such questions as: why is Billy Can Can so good these days? (It's modernizing Southwestern cuisine with more freshness and a reflection of the diversity of today's Texas.) Did Tei-An always have a tomahawk steak and a huge jug of truffle oil? (Seasonally... Late night pasta at Far Out: ground beef sugo bianco, toasted pecans, pickled shaved carrots. And it wouldn't be a Misti Norris dish if it wasn't scattered with dill on top. (Not complaining. Dill on everything is my goal in life too. Speaking of life goals, "late night" means 9:15pm.)

Grilled shrimp (hibiscus marinated) on coconut saag. One of many, many star dishes at Puerto Cocina. Our review will be in the May issue of the magazine; if you can't wait, just go. If you can only medium wait, subscribers get the magazine a couple weeks before it goes online. Bonus tip: get the madeleines for dessert. @puertococina_

.@rainbowcat.tx "unicorn dog": fried sticky rice "bun," big ol smoked sausage, mushroom mayo, pickled peppers. Peak bar food.

Pastrami brisket is back on at Cattleack this week, and beef cheeks with lime chimichurri on Friday. In case you needed a little PSA. I don't post here much anymore. Every time I resolve to get back to it, the platform annoys me some more. No, I don't need to add a song to my picture of barbecue. No, I don't want to reach more people, necessarily. Anyway.... More
