Copy of Top Fine Dining Restaurants in Sofia, Bulgaria
This is my personal top list of fine dining restaurants in Sofia, which I have visited in the last two years. They all offer different experiences and quality food and the sort ordering should not be taken as a ranking. There are also other places, which are still in my To-Do list for visit, but since I currently have no experience with them, I can add or recommend them.
Sofia fine dining scene is getting more and more interesting lately, and offers a mixture of traditional approaches, plus interesting personal perspectives of offering traditional Bulgarian dishes into a more modern and personal way.
In my opinion, any of those restaurant are suitable entries for Michelin Bib Gourmand list and some of them, would be suitable for a Michelin Star rating as well.
1 Secret Table by Chef Petrov
Secret Table is the only restaurant in Bulgaria, which offers the chefs' table approach for its clients. The chefs' team consists of chef Boris Petrov (as known from Lords of Chefs and Vip Brother Bulgaria and with 35+ years of experience) and chef Kalin Savov. The offer unique experience once per day, which starts at 7.30pm and finishes around 11pm. You need to make an online reservation on their website in advance, since all food is prepared on the same day and is freshly bought.
The dinner goes into something close to a theatre experience where you learn a lot about each dish and its history. The degustation menu is constantly updated based on the local foods suitable for the current season and it consists of about 25 different dishes.
2 Japanese restaurant Miyabi
Miyabi is one of the few Japanese restaurants in Sofia, where you can see real Japanese clients. It is run by chef Petar Mihalchev (as known as a jury in the last few editions of Master Chefs Bulgaria) and chef Boni Petkov. It is with regular opening times and have also a small and nice garden, which could be use during summer time.
You could find there a mixture of different Japanese dishes and drinks, but what makes it unique is the usage of some Bulgarian ingredients into the Japanese dishes, which show the connection between Asia and Bulgaria. You could also experience some real traditional Japanese dishes, prepared on a Japanese level of quality, for which he spends averagely two months each year. If you are a top diner looking for an exclusive experience, you could contact in advance the place and arrange a special menu as well.
3 Chef's Restaurant
Chef's restaurant is one of the two upper class restaurants run by chef Victor Angelov. (as known as a jury member of the last few editions of Hell's Kitchen). They offer urban style cuisine, which has some local influences, but as a whole is more generic.
4 Restaurant Ahora
Ahora restaurant is run by chef Sevda Dimitrova (as known as a Master Chef winner in its second edition in Bulgaria). The place offer a unique approach of traditional Bulgarian dishes reflected by the personal background of the chef. For the best experience, you should have chef Dimitrova personally presenting her dishes and inspirations. If you call them in advance, you could get your own personal degustation menu, based on your personal tastes.
Restaurant Cosmos offers the so called traditional Bulgarian space cuisine, which is actually a modern reflection of traditional Bulgarian dishes by using high quality local ingredients. It's uniqueness comes from the ambience of the place.
6 Constantinoff RestoBar
Restobar Constantinoff is run by executive chef Sidoniya Radeva. It is located in the very centre of the city on the main pedestrian street. The menu is updated seasonally and includes many local traditional dishes offered in an artistic way. On top of good food, you have also a nice selection of drinks, including many cocktails. The ambience is very good, the restaurant is on two floors with enough space between the tables and has an open area outside.
Restaurant Bistrello is run by the young chef Vladimir Todorov. It offers also a modern reflection of some Bulgarian traditional dishes and is a nice place to visit.
8 Niko'las 0/360
Restaurant Nikolas 0/360 is run by chef Tzvetomir Nikolov. It offers another type of modern reflection of traditional Bulgarian dishes, but this type transferred via Asian influences. He goes each year to Thailand and Asia, and buy at spot a lot of ingredients, who are used later on for the new menu.
