@elephantinebakery is originally from Portsmouth and now opened a second location in Seaport. Stunning presentations, beautifully crockery, great quality of ingredients. It just needs a couple of tweaks to be amazing.

As usual, I paid for my own meal, I’m brutally honest, and scored everything so you know what to get and what to skip. Here what I had:

Watch till the end for my favorite dish 👀 I literally came here straight from the airport — Monday afternoon and still waited 40 minutes…. Worth it. This is now in my “must-visit” list for Miami ☀️😎

Barra Callao @barracallao — a tiny, casual Peruvian fusion spot that quietly delivers upscale-level food without the upscale attitude or prices. And honestly? This is my favorite kind of restaurant. I love places that look low-key but cook with intention. Where the plating is thoughtful, the flavors are bold, and you can feel the passion — not the ego. No white tablecloths, no performance, just really good food done right.

As usual, I paid for my own meal, I’m brutally honest, and I score everything so you know what to get and what to skip. Some dishes absolutely stood out, a couple didn’t. If you like subtle flavors, this is not the place for you.

Why wasn’t this one part of the sushi series? Because the series was dedicated to nigiri and spicy tuna makis only! But overall I’d rank @matsunori.handrollbar in 3rd place 🏆🙌🏻

Forgot to mention the wasabi, soy sauce and ginger are on another level. By the way, their owners are the same as the new restaurant in Seaport called @mai.izakaya , so their menu is identical to Mai’s lunch menu. For dinner Mai has some new hot offerings. Mai is more expensive than Matsunori.

For those new to my page, I don’t take the service into consideration for my scores, but I do like to talk about it because I know it’s important to many of you. This was a great experience.

This is a redo of Episode 3 of looking for the best sushi in the greater Boston area. Episode 3 was Cafe Sushi delivery, but several of you insistent I couldn’t end the series without giving it another shot now that they are open for dine-in… So I went back.

They did a really good job with the ambiance, and the service was excellent — frequent check-ins, thoughtful delivery of food, good explanations. I was so rooting for them but 40% of the food hit, 60% didn’t, and 1.5-2x more expensive than takeout… 😭 Please keep in mind I DO NOT TAKE SERVICE INTO CONSIDERATION for the score, and that the score is the average of the maki and the nigiri — the maki is bringing the score down. To understand the individual scores look at the criteria in the video.

The sushi spot that ruins all other sushi spots 😅

This is Episode 10 of my search for the best sushi in the greater Boston area 🍣 Wa Shin in 📍Back Bay/Beacon Hill. They don’t serve spicy tuna rolls here, so I had to skip that part of the review.

Reservation-only, 10 seats, no menu… just you and the chef, one bite at a time. Having been to Michelin-starred sushi spots, I was shocked Wa Shin didn’t get one. At one point, I legit wanted to go back and re-score everyone else. At $200 per person, each bite is about $12… definitely expensive but worth it IMO.

I’ll post a separate video on the full Wa Shin experience because it’s definitely worth sharing. The service is next level

Does anyone else consider a problem not finding their prices online? Transparency matters, especially when a signature dish (like their Bistecca Alla Florentina) costs $225 💰

If you are new to my page, I never count the service towards the score but I do talk about it. Our waitress was very nice but a bit distracted. We waited over 15 minutes between giving our drink order and our food order — not because the restaurant was slammed, but because no one approached the table. And once we finally ordered, the pacing made zero sense. The menu is written Italian-style with antipasti, primi, secondi… but besides the focaccia and the tuna, everything arrived at once. A full table of dishes getting cold while we tried to figure out what to taste first. It felt rushed and chaotic, the opposite of what a restaurant at this price and reputation should feel like.

Episode 9 of my series looking for the best sushi in the greater Boston area. This time reviewing @tastesushico in Newton, one of my long-time favorites. This place proves that when technique and ingredients are right, simplicity actually outshines the flashy stuff.

If you love clean, restrained, more authentic sushi this will hit. If you prefer complex, western-style rolls… this is not the place for that.

Uni has won Best Sushi in Boston multiple times — but also shows up as one of the most controversial picks in my chart. I skipped the $250 omakase and ordered off the regular menu… and while there were a couple standouts, most of it didn’t justify the steep price.
