Had to stop into Hermon’s before leaving LA. A fairly new opening in Highland Park serving elevated classics in a cosy dining room with lots of booths and bar seating. Proper buzzy vibe in here.

We were a big group so ordered most of the menu. Standouts were the sheet vongole, grilled snap peas, potato fritters and scallop crudo. A couple of the raw dishes didn’t make it to the table which was a shame.

The vongole was excellent - creative, well-executed, with crispy edges and a really nice char across the top. Loved the crispy guanciale dotted all over. The snap peas were a surprise highlight - smoked, spicy, and packed with proper heat and intensity.

Steak was nicely cooked with a great crust. They’re not using dry-aged beef, so the meat itself eats a little mild, but the bordelaise is exceptional. Perfect consistency, deeply flavoured, slightly sweet, slightly sharp, with a proper buttery finish. Genuinely one of the best sauces I’ve had in a while.

Was excited for the burger and it delivered, although all three came out slightly over at medium-well. Still juicy and full of flavour, but there’s a lot of mustard in that cheese sauce. The peppercorns in there work really well. Overall solid, but not my favourite in LA.

Skillet cookie is a must too, so save space for that. Would go back again for sure - a great spot for dinner. Less
