I enjoyed a clam hot pot at the renowned "Hinode" in Kuwana. The large clams were plump and juicy, releasing a rich umami flavor with every bite—truly exquisite. The elegant taste of the broth, combined with the charming atmosphere of the private room, made for a blissful experience. This is definitely a place I want to visit again!
| Menu Clam Hot Pot + Sashimi Course JPY 13,000 Large Clam JPY 1,750 | Visit Timing Saturday at 17:30 | Review It's an annual treat to enjoy the clam hot pot. Unfortunately, the fruit cocktail was unavailable due to a lack of fresh fruit, which was disappointing. The meal concluded with a rice porridge, and instead of shaved ice for dessert, we had Ise tea ice cream. It was delicious.
A renowned restaurant in Kuwana! My senior colleague made a reservation a year ago and took me here, and it truly is an amazing place. The atmosphere of the town was also fantastic! The clams were so delicious that I honestly felt I could eat five times more, and they paired perfectly with the broth. I definitely want to come back to this restaurant!

They also offer grilled clams and tempura, and surprisingly, I never got bored of the flavors. To finish, I had Chinese noodles in a rich clam broth, but there are other options like rice porridge as well. This restaurant is definitely worth a visit if you're coming to Kuwana for the clams. It was truly delicious. Thank you for the wonderful meal! Less

I can't help but wonder what all the clams I've eaten in my life were like compared to these. They are incredibly delicious.I've had clam shabu-shabu three times, and with each experience, the broth absorbs the rich flavor of the clams, gradually enhancing its taste. As I enjoy it, I add kudzu noodles and tofu to soak up the flavorful broth, ensuring that every bite remains exciting. The hospitality here is exceptional, as they serve a full array of clam dishes. This is a restaurant everyone should visit... I was lucky enough to secure a reservation for 2026. The clams during this season are plump and rich, just before spawning. The staff boil them to perfection and serve them on the plate, rich and milky in flavor. The clams from Kuwana are rare due to their limited harvest. Some people prefer the autumn clams, though. The kuzukiri (starch noodles) are served with a kick of black pepper. I had one prepared as grilled clams, which was also delicious. The tempura of clams wrapped in the finest quality... More

The tempura of clams wrapped in the finest quality nori from Kuwana is a luxurious dish. To finish off, the clam rice porridge is bursting with umami from the clam broth, making it incredibly delicious. The Kuwana clams, harvested from brackish waters, are different from the clams found in the open ocean (Chousen Hamaguri). Clams harvested from Hyuganada in Miyazaki Prefecture are said to be made into white go stones (while black go stones are from Nachi). Learning about clams is also quite enjoyable. Less

I always visit in June, which is the peak season for clams. You can truly enjoy the natural flavor of the clams. They are very large and incredibly satisfying! I had 6 clams in a hot pot, along with 2 large grilled clams and 1 medium one. Originally sung at banquets after the Russo-Japanese War, it became established as a song symbolizing the prosperity of Kuwana. After going here, there are pretty much no reasons to eat hamaguri at any other place. Perhaps there is something in the waters around Kuwana, but this time around, these beasts are the summer ones where they grow rather large.
