Sabor Especial Belém

I first heard about Sabor Especial in a post from the ultimate Northern Brazilian food ambassador, @thiagocastanho. Since then, it didn’t take long for this familiar restaurant to crack a spot on my wishlist of places to dine in Belém.

The pictures of local staples like fried fish had me drooling all over my screen. Additionally, on specific days they all serve a deep fried delicacy and the crowd favorite called “unha de caranguejo”.

While all of these looked fantastic, when I finally walked my way over there, in the backend of my week in Belém and having had delicious local dishes all over town, I decided to order something different and tried their “peixe ao escabeche”. It was glorious.

The sauce was additively good, being very well seasoned and perfectly moisturizing the combination of rice and farofa served on the side. It is served with tiny shrimps on top, bringing umami notes to an outstanding dish. As I anticipated, the fish provided an appreciated change of pace in the method of preparation when compared to my previous meals, and it also paired very well with the freezing cold beers served.

@saborespecial_ is a special place, and I fully enjoyed my hours seated on a plastic table on the sidewalk, eating great local food with a privileged view of the fierce soccer match that kids were playing on the street.
