My favorite yakiniku in Kyoto. Great beef, innovative dishes and the best hospitality one can think of.
Back at our local Yakiniku in Kyoto. This time we were very lucky, maybe because the president of Onishi also turned up.
We got three different cuts from the phantom beef, the Murasawa beef.
Usually the beef is named after the prefecture where it is coming from, not so Murasawa. The beef is so specific that it is called after the manufacturer. Usually the beef is named after the prefecture where it is coming from, not so Murasawa. The beef is so specific that it is called after the manufacturer. There are three bloodlines which get traced pedantically in order to select the best cows for breeding. The cows are much older than normal when slaughtered and the annual contingent is only 80(!) cows. A rare treat which you only can get in very few places in Japan and no where overseas.
Whether we got the Murasawa beef because the president was there or vice versa, we don't know but we were very happy. Less
My favorite yakiniku in Kyoto.
The one&only yakiniku place once in Kyoto!
Great evening with Hirai-gyu with different cuts from the leg of a cow.
Yakiniku owned by the beef company Ginkakuji Onishi.
Takayama-tencho, the Chef there probably has forgotten more about beef than I will ever know.
This place is a favourite for local Chefs and as we are there now "regulars" we can call ahead and order special cuts.
Every meal there is a lesson in anatomy of a cow.
Unbelievable value for money in this small yakiniku normally frequented by locals and some famous Chefs from the town.
The knowledge of beef and passion for it is unparalleled. He even has some nice wines at reasonable prices.
Fantastic yakiniku restaurant in Kyoto. Very popular with locals he serves mostly "Murasawa" and "Hirai" Japanese wagyu beef of A5 quality.
His creation of a hand roll of kombu, one sided torched beef, shiso leave and uni is an instant classic. It taste so good that we had to have two servings.
