Recommended bowl: Classic Tokyo taste

A local shop with a local, nostalgic vibe, only open 11am-2pm. The old-school Tokyo Maruchō style shoyu soup is pork based, slightly sweet, slightly spicy and slightly sour. Semi flat tsukemen noodles are house-made and boiled ahead of time to allow for quicker service. The master trained at Maruchō in Mejiro, however this Sakuradai branch is not affiliated with the Mejiro shop, nor any other Maruchō. They turn down all TV, magazine and media requests. No children allowed, no talking on the phone inside. Open since 1985.
