Dinner before Christmas at the UK’s newest three Michelin star restaurant, @lenclume , up in Cartmel. I think that in all honesty L’enclume is now the only three star restaurant in the UK that I am eager to return to. Also, apart from the interesting and delicious food, the service was incredibly slick. Some of the best service I can remember having.

I also visited Aulis in London that week and it was interesting chatting to them about just how @rogan_simon Simon Rogan has built a small empire and managed to keep it going, even thriving through such difficult times. Basically I think that the slickness and attention to detail that I observed last week at L’enclume is mirrored in the way the business is run as a whole. Anyway, ramble over, highly recommended 👌🏻

The truth be known however, I actually preferred the flavour of the dishes on my visit when it was a one star and now that it has gained two Michelin stars, my second visit showed an almost marathon of a tasting menu with simply superb inventiveness (particular highlight being the crystallised candy pops that accompanied the main meat course) but glad to have experienced it rather than an insatiable desire to get back there soon.
Simon Rogan’s dishes are utterly fresh and stylish without being too over the top and the sourcing of all local ingredients from the immediate lands give his cooking a very personal touch. The food will wow almost any diner and it should definitely be on every foodie’s to do list. Perfect for a nice lunch and a special occasion, but with the length of the menus and price tags associated, it’s difficult to view as a place to just drop in – diners should be under no illusion that booking as well as planning the stomach and timetable well in advance is required for a visit here.
