La Casa de Abuelo - Madrid (Spain)
When travelling abroad, there are some clear signs on where not to stop for lunch. Avoiding places in touristy areas and with neighboring restaurants with hosts inviting guests inside with big menus on display is a good rule of thumb, for example.
But there are exceptions to every rule, and @lacasadelabuelo is certainly one of them. Located near Puerta del Sol, the historic tavern is well deserving of its fame for the signature and viral Gambas al Ajillo.
The sizzling shrimps are served in a ceramic pan that resembles an olive oil bath tub, with tons of garlic and a few chillies. It is addictive and very tasty, being a perfect place to step away from the crowds and the heat when touristing through the city center.
