I visited the reservation-only restaurant "SUGALABO" for the first time. Even back then, I thought it was overpriced, but as of 2026, the food alone costs around JPY 100,000.It seems that those who still appreciate this restaurant in 2026 might be easily recognizable "marks" (just my personal opinion).I visited on a weekday evening, and the place was fully booked. It’s a super popular restaurant with a 100% occupancy rate. There are 8 counter seats and tables, and I sat at the counter in front of the open kitchen. They are also collaborating with "Louis Vuitton" for locations in Tokyo and Osaka.This might be a classic example of a "difficult-to-reserve" marketing success! Chef Suga mainly handles the cooking with heat. The desserts were not only original but also genuinely delicious.Some highlights included:- Salty raw karasumi (dried mullet roe) monaka.- Raw scallops & caviar.- Sakura shrimp and corn tempura.- 24-month aged Perch with rice.- Japanese-style jelly with eggplant and sea urchin.- Fried Seki horse mackerel with tartar sauce.- Italian-style soup with grouper.- Gazpacho with junsai (water shield).- Satsuma beef.- Beef curry.- Melon dessert.- Mango & passion fruit dessert.- Madeleines.- Fresh herbal tea.- Souvenirs.I only ordered the alcohol pairing and paid JPY 64,800. (I declined the separate bill for the celebratory champagne.)There’s no denying that it feels overpriced compared to the food quality.[It might be perfect for those who want to brag about dining at an expensive, hard-to-book restaurant since it’s completely reservation-only and difficult to secure a spot.](Visited in May 2022.
