Tucked away in a quiet part of Niigata, this was one of my highlights for kappo last year. Understated, but well seasoned and delicious. The dashi is on the more flavourful side of things, but that's the way i like it. Crab dishes were as good as any crab senmon ten. Top level service and great local Niigata sakes rounded things off.

A boozy lunch at Kappo Watanabe 割烹渡辺, never expected to find a 1 Michelin starred high end kappo restaurant in the tiny town of Maki 40 minutes outside of Niigata. Super fun chef, solid dishes and interesting local sake selection (owner of one of the premium sake served was sitting right next to me at the counter!)•
