Aminah Arif Restaurant - Brunei

This is ambuyat, Brunei’s national dish.
Made from the starch of the sago palm, ambuyat is almost completely neutral on its own. That’s the point: you twirl it around these bamboo sticks, dip it into the different sauces and eat it together with the dishes served alongside.

I had it at Aminah Arif, one of the well-known places for traditional ambuyat, and finished with their Daging Urat Tumis, tender beef and tendon cooked with spices and a savory sauce.

This is Brunei food at its most traditional.
