Recommended bowl: Visually stunning

Appareya sits in the middle of nowhere, up in the rural hills of Kyoto. Customers start lining up hours before opening, and the line usually runs 50 deep by the time the shop opens its doors. Appareya's specialty is a rich, creamy and decadent shio tonkotsu gyokai soup. The noodles are homemade. Rare chashu crusted in black pepper lines the bowls, and most opt for the chashumen. The tsukemen also has a cult following but it's limited to just 20 bowls per day. A legend shop, considered by some amongst the best in Japan.
