Oakland’s beloved sourdough pizzeria has replaced its signature pie with a New Haven-inspired version: tomato sauce, garlic oil, burrata, oregano and a snowfall of Pecorino. While the change has sparked a bit of backlash, critic Cesar Hernandez is behind the new direction. He argues the new pizza is thinner, crispier and, in its own idiosyncratic way, unmistakably June’s.
