When we arrived, the shop was already completely full of early-bird locals and Japanese tourists happily eating their noodle bowls. It's all very fast paced - you order, you slurp, and you leave. They usually sell out within several hours due to their constant popularity. You get to make 2 choices - hot/cold noodles and small/medium/large size bowl. From there, you can add your own condiments and toppings (i.e. tempura, fried bean curd). Minutes later, we were enjoying some of the best udon of our lives! Such a satisfying breakfast. ?

The Kagawa Prefecture in Japan specializes in udon. A large majority of all the top shops in the country are located within this region.

We started our day early with udon breakfast at 8am at Gamou (讃岐うどん がもう), the 3rd highest ranked shop on Tabelog and winner of the 2017 Bronze award. Like many great restaurants in Japan, this place was hard to get to, located on the outskirts of Sakaide city and tucked away inside of a block making it hard to find from the street.
