Since we’re in Munich for Oktoberfest, we decided to eat one fine dining meal while we’re here. We settled on Werneckhof by Geisel, a restaurant that is more than 100 years old with 2 Michelin Stars and 18 Gault Millau points. The kitchen is led by Chef Tohru Nakamura, who took over in 2013. He is half German and half Japanese, and that fusion of cultures shows throughout the menu. Bavaria meets Tokyo, in a sense.

The execution of the dishes were on point with well balanced flavors and presentation. But what made this meal exceptional was the fun and interactive aspects. At one point, we were led outside and into a hidden room in the basement where we were transported to Shibuya in Tokyo. Totally unexpected and a nice touch. And the last dessert course was a puzzle piece showcasing different parts of the city; once we solved the puzzle, the corresponding sweet bite would arrive. Great food, great service, and a memorable meal - Werneckhof by Geisel is worth a visit while in Munich.
