There are good meals and then there are great meals. Every once in awhile, a life-changing meal comes along and reaffirms that reaching nirvana in the food world still exists. This is our 3rd visit to Ogata (緒方) and just like our first time, our minds were blown. For the winter season, we had a crab feast of Taiza Gani (Snow Crab) along with other sensational dishes. We were very fortunate to have an intimate lunch with Chef Toshiro Ogata; we sat right in front of the chef as he prepared our meal with undivided attention. There was no extravagant presentation for each course - the delicate flavors of simple ingredients was center stage with precise execution.
This will go down as one of the greatest meals of all time in our personal experiences. When people ask for our favorite restaurant in Japan, it’s Ogata. Ogata is Tabelog Gold and currently holds 2 Michelin stars.
