I'm not a big fan of tempura, but this place is incredibly popular. I knew it was a difficult restaurant to get a reservation at.It's also known for being featured on the show "Jounetsu Tairiku" and is associated with the Sasue Maeda Fresh Fish Shop, where they prepare fish exclusively from select shops.I learned that it’s ranked number one for tempura on Tabelog. I thought it would be out of my budget, but my friends from Shizuoka made a reservation and invited me. I'm so grateful! The location is next to Asama Shrine. They have lunch and dinner service starting at 6 PM.There are only 8 counter seats, making it quite exclusive. While waiting for our seats, we had to wait at the entrance, which made me a bit nervous...At night, it transforms into the Naruse bar counter, which isn’t widely known. We were shown to our seats at the counter. From the counter, we could see outside, where the greenery was beautifully lit up.First, we ordered drinks. My friends started with a lovely wine pairing.Since I wasn't feeling well, I opted for a soft drink. They offered a tea pairing as well.I had imagined the chef would be a grumpy old man, but he turned out to be quite refreshing.I was surprised by how attentive he was, even to me, the guest brought by my friends. There were only 8 customers and 2 staff members on the floor.Inside the counter, there were at least three staff members assisting the chef. Now, let’s start the course.⚫︎ Peach SorbetThe finger lime added a nice pop.⚫︎ SashimiHata (grouper). Hata??? I think it’s a type of fish similar to Kue. It might have been my first time trying it.⚫︎ Squid and Grilled AbaloneThe squid had a nice texture, and the abalone was tender and delicious. Now, let’s start the tempura!⚫︎ Spanish MackerelI was surprised by the beautiful cut I had never seen before.I enjoyed it with a generous amount of grated daikon in the dipping sauce. It was fluffy and simply the best!!What is this...⚫︎ Round Eggplant⚫︎ Okra⚫︎ Hamana Lake Sweet ShrimpThis is a seasonal dish available only in July and August. The shrimp was skewered and served whole, with miso tempura—something I had never tried before!!I was so happy (๑>◡
