No magic in Alba, Piemont :-( . I've heard more bad as good things about Piazza Duomo and it took me a long time to get here finally. Well, i am not impressed at all. The restaurant has a top location, the room itself is lacking atmosphere. But lets talk about the cuisine:
I clearly miss the signature of the chef. Every single dish contains jelly.. ....why? The impressive looking appetizers (around 20 small plates) promise more as it delivers. No one of those is memorable.
The so called sea urchin dish does not make any sense for me. Not even as i am one of the very few who doesn't not really like sea urchin. But a carpaccio is the last way i would serve sea urchin. The Russia inspired beet root dish does not impress at all too. Another ingredient swimming in jelly.
How is about the Japan influenced mackerel/cucumber dish? Well... still doesn't get the cucamelon presence since it is a gift from Mexico and Japanese does not even eat cucumber at all. It might be my mistake if i don't get it. The only dish which satisfies a little bit is the monkfish. A great bite. The so called Risotteo Piemontese, made of chestnut water and cacao is... I don't get it. I would have preferred a simple safran risotto like the day before in Lido84. That one was unforgettable. The meat dish, a quail was ok, nothing memorable. The only dessert looked weird and it tasted the same way. What a shame!! A cup of coffee for 12 Euro was just the top of the disappointing experience in this *** restaurant. My first and last visit probably.
