I finally visited Onjaku, the tea kaiseki restaurant I had been longing to try! (*^^*)I had been looking forward to this day.*From the entrance to the seating area, you walk through a lovely courtyard that feels very charming, reminiscent of Kyoto! The interior is elegantly arranged yet incredibly calming. (^_^) I was particularly impressed by the chef, who greeted each guest with great care. Here’s what I enjoyed:- Jindo Squid (perfectly cooked and tender!)- Ayamekasago and Molokhia- Sawara and Winter Melon (the Sawara was incredibly fluffy!)- Sweet Long Pepper Fried in Rice Flour & Fresh Shirasu- Hata (Grouper)- Miso Dengaku with Green Eggplant (the eggplant was creamy, but the surface was crispy)- Dōman Crab in Kuzu Sauce (a rare crab!)- Long-cooked Zucchini- Kinmedai with Burnt Soy Sauce (I was looking forward to this!)- Korinky (a type of squash)- Ginger Rice- Grilled Eel with Miso, Orido Eggplant, and Okra- Rice with Hamo and Sweet Long Pepper- Miso Soup and Pickles- Marinated Hobou Rice- Chilled Rice with Sesame Sauce- Peach Jelly with Black Tea- Zunda Hishi Mochi (rich and with a great texture)- Tea (prepared by the chef)Every dish was absolutely delightful, but I was particularly impressed by the fluffy texture of the Sawara and the Kinmedai. (^O^)Additionally, the British salt used for the Hata sashimi and green eggplant added a wonderful accent! It looks coarse with the crystals remaining, but the flavor is mellow.I used to think that grilling eel until the skin is crispy was the way to go, but the miso preparation was also delicious.*The chef truly excels! (*^^*)It was a full-day experience, but I’m so glad I came!I’ll definitely be back.*It was a great meal! ^^
