I’m not a fan of waiting in line or making reservations at ramen shops, but since this one was conveniently located near my hotel, I decided to give it a try.At 8 AM on the day reservations opened, I managed to book a table for 8:45 the next day. Lucky me! I was looking forward to it.The restaurant is a 5-minute walk from Nishi-Shinjuku Gochome Station, heading away from Shinjuku along Hōnan Street. It’s not very noticeable, so be careful not to miss it.There are only 6 counter seats, and the owner runs the place by himself.Following the rule of the top left button on the vending machine, I ordered the restaurant's recommended dish, the "Special Soy Sauce Ramen" for JPY 2,000. Within 10 minutes of sitting down, my ramen arrived.Wow, it was topped with a generous amount of chashu (braised pork). In addition to the classic pork belly, there was also pork loin and chicken.I pushed aside the chashu to take a sip of the broth. It was clear and flavorful, but I felt the soy sauce was a bit strong (though that might be because I’ve only been eating tonkotsu ramen lately). Personally, I would have liked some pepper or vinegar, but that might go against the restaurant's rules. Patience, patience.Next, the noodles. They were straight and medium-thin, with a smooth texture. Quite different from my favorite thick, curly noodles. After eating some chashu and noodles, I was surprised to find wontons and an egg hidden underneath. How luxurious! This must be what makes it special. The wontons were filled with plenty of meat and shrimp, and the egg was perfectly soft-boiled.However, paying JPY 2,000 for a bowl of ramen is quite shocking. While it was packed with ingredients and delicious, I feel that a regular ramen shop would suffice for me.
