Cantonese Restaurant Sense, located on the 37th floor of the Mandarin Oriental Tokyo, is recognized as one of Tabelog's top 100 restaurants. The interior features large floor-to-ceiling windows, offering a stunning view of Tokyo Skytree. The high-rise setting provides a sense of openness, allowing for a calm and enjoyable lunch experience. This time, I opted for the weekday-only lunch course "Rose" priced at JPY 7,200.*Note: Prices are subject to an additional 15% service charge and 10% consumption tax.【SENSE's Superior Broth】 The superior broth is served from a teapot into a small bowl. It has a refreshing and elegant flavor, with the warm soup gently soothing the stomach.【Stir-fried Large Shrimp with Fried Garlic】 The large shrimp has a delightful, bouncy texture. The robust flavor of the fried garlic pairs perfectly with the shrimp.【Steamed Soup with Various Mushrooms】 This steamed soup contains a variety of mushrooms and ingredients. The seasoning is gentle, allowing the natural flavors to shine. It features some rare mushrooms that are not commonly seen, making it visually appealing as well.【Steamed Sea Bream with Scallions and Ginger】 This dish features sea bream steamed with scallions and ginger, highlighting the fresh taste of the ingredients with a light flavor.【Sweet and Sour Pork with Two Types of Black Vinegar】 This sweet and sour pork is made with neck meat. The meat had a bit of chewiness, and the flavor of the black vinegar was milder than expected. Personally, it wasn't my favorite dish of the meal.【Shrimp Wonton Noodles】 The broth is similar to the superior broth, with a refreshing taste. The shrimp wontons were delicious and complemented the gentle flavor of the soup.【Dessert】 I chose the "Almond Jelly of Now and Then." Although I'm usually not fond of almond jelly, this one had a delicious syrup that I enjoyed until the end. The almond tea, in particular, reminded me of the authentic taste I had in Taiwan, evoking a sense of nostalgia.Additionally, the variety of tea leaves available is quite impressive.I ordered the "Dan Gui Lily" priced at JPY 2,200. This beautiful artisan tea features lily flowers carefully tied with green tea buds. When hot water is poured over the round tea leaves, you can enjoy watching the flowers slowly bloom. The flavor is refreshing and easy to drink, making it a delightful experience for both the eyes and palate. With the option for additional hot water, I was able to savor the tea thoroughly over three infusions.Overall, it was a special lunch where I could leisurely enjoy Cantonese cuisine and Chinese tea while taking in the view from the high-rise.
