I visited Sushi Ryujiro located in Minami Aoyama. This time, I enjoyed the omakase course. The restaurant is about a 4-minute walk from Gaienmae Station and is also accessible from Aoyama-itchome Station, offering a calm atmosphere. It has been recognized with the Tabelog Award 2026 Silver and selected as one of the Top 100 Sushi Restaurants in Tokyo 2025.Many reviews highlight the course starting with the first piece of tuna sushi, the high quality of each piece, and the serene ambiance at the counter. The course begins with the tuna sushi.Starting with sushi right away is impressive, and from the very first piece, you are drawn into the restaurant's world. The lean tuna has a rich flavor typical of tuna, with a clean aftertaste. The medium fatty tuna and fatty tuna have a sweet richness without being heavy, and the harmony with the rice was excellent. The sea bass has a refined white fish flavor that expands pleasantly with each bite. The squid has a sticky texture and notable sweetness, providing a simple yet satisfying taste. The sweet shrimp melts in your mouth with a lingering sweetness. The bonito has a wonderful aroma and a different strength compared to the lean tuna. The young horse mackerel is perfectly cured, with a beautiful balance of acidity and umami. The sea urchin combines the aroma of seaweed with a rich sweetness, making it a luxurious dish. The egg roll also offers a delightful aroma and flavor that can be enjoyed between sushi pieces. In addition to sushi, I also had sashimi of Matsukawa flounder, egg tofu with summer vegetables, steamed abalone, fried clams, mozuku seaweed, grilled managatsuo, and shirasu on kudzu noodles. The sashimi of Matsukawa flounder has a transparent texture, feeling light yet flavorful. The egg tofu with summer vegetables has a refreshing appearance and gentle taste, providing a nice accent in the course. The steamed abalone has a moist texture and a rich umami from the broth. The fried clams had their flavor infused into the broth, making it a satisfying warm dish. The mozuku seaweed has a refreshing taste, helping to balance the flow of the course. The grilled managatsuo offers a delightful aroma and a fluffy texture. The shirasu on kudzu noodles was light yet allowed the flavor of the shirasu to shine, making it a great dish before finishing.Overall, rather than being flashy, the course is about carefully layering each dish. The quality of the sushi is, of course, excellent, and the flow from appetizers to sushi is smooth, maintaining satisfaction until the end. This is a recommended restaurant for when you want to enjoy carefully crafted sushi in a tranquil space.
