Nestled beyond a mountain path lies a charming old farmhouse. Here, surrounded by an irori (traditional Japanese hearth), you can savor the seasonal blessings of the satoyama (mountain village) in a truly special moment. What I enjoyed was...- Yamame (Japanese mountain trout)- Grilled Ayu (sweetfish) with salt- Hirakiboshi (dried fish)- Pheasant tataki- Tempura of wild vegetables- Grilled unagi (eel)- Pheasant dishes- Okahijiki (saltwort) with grilled pheasant- Venison tenderloin- Venison strip loin- Unagi with rice- Pheasant and wild vegetable mixed riceThe river fish was fragrant, and the pheasant's flavor expanded with each bite. The venison was surprisingly delicate and refined. Each dish was not about flashiness but rather showcased the strength of the ingredients themselves.Every plate was delicious. Before I knew it, not just the food, but the warmth of the irori and the passage of time became part of the feast. This place felt more like a destination to "experience the seasons" rather than just a place to "go eat."I can't wait to return to gather around that irori again when the seasons change.
