The long-awaited day finally arrived after quite a struggle to make a reservation. I visited Onjaku, a tea kaiseki restaurant located in Yaizu, Shizuoka Prefecture. There are over 900,000 restaurants registered on Tabelog, but only 36 have received the Tabelog Award 2026 GOLD. With a score of 4.55, Onjaku has won the Gold award for four consecutive years, ranking 20th out of 900,913 restaurants! ✨Before opening, I took a stroll around Yaizu Port, where I could only see the tip of Mount Fuji. I entered the restaurant through a garden leading to a traditional house. The nine counter seats surrounded Chef Sugiyama, creating a perfect atmosphere with impeccable service and hospitality. The dishes, primarily featuring fresh fish and vegetables from Yaizu, were of the highest level and incredibly delicious. Watching Chef Sugiyama's graceful movements while enjoying the food was a wonderful experience. I would love to return and make another reservation! ❣️1️⃣ Mackerel cucumber rolls with plum paste, freshly caught in Yaizu 2️⃣ Jindou squid with mizuna, served with mustard and wasabi to taste—sweet and incredibly delicious 3️⃣ Crispy fried baby sardines, perfectly balancing bitterness and saltiness 4️⃣ My favorite saury with molokhia 5️⃣ Sweet sea bream and shiitake mushrooms with yuzu flavor 6️⃣ Sashimi of bonito and hanadai 7️⃣ Leaf ginger 8️⃣ Tomato (for palate cleansing) 9️⃣ Grilled eel wrapped with burdock, sansho, and doubanjiang Long-cooked zucchini marinated in onion soy sauce 1️⃣1️⃣ Kinmedai (red snapper) with sansho soy sauce 1️⃣2️⃣ Edamame soup 1️⃣3️⃣ Itoyori-dai from Shimizu Port with Orido eggplant and okra 1️⃣4️⃣ Freshly cooked rice with young ginger 1️⃣5️⃣ Rice with swordfish 1️⃣6️⃣ Rice with marinated bonito 1️⃣7️⃣ Chilled sesame dashi chazuke 1️⃣8️⃣ Miso soup 1️⃣9️⃣ Hamagou extract drizzled over tea jelly with Kawachi Bankan 2️⃣0️⃣ Wild vegetable mochi with udon, barley, and sansho.
