I recently visited the famous Iida Shoten! I had bought fresh noodles in Odawara before and had been curious about this place for years, but it was far away and I never found the right time to go. After checking, I found out that they accept reservations on Sundays starting at 4 PM, so I decided to give it a try and successfully made a reservation! I was lucky, as I heard some people had tried multiple times to get in.I reserved the first slot at 11 AM and arrived 10 minutes early. They have a system where you buy a ticket from a vending machine beforehand, but the limited menu item (Dan Dan Noodles) was already sold out! As expected!! Since I usually order the standard menu on my first visit, I purchased a ticket for the "Shoyu Wonton Chashu Ramen (JPY 3,000)." Additionally, I bought the vegetable rice that had caught my interest.I entered the restaurant a few minutes after it opened at 11 AM. The manager greeted us, and I was impressed by the high level of hospitality. The interior was very clean, and there were staff members assigned to different tasks, such as preparing noodles, wontons, chashu, and rice dishes. It was enjoyable to watch the preparation process from the counter seats. And now, onto the tasting! The broth had a delightful aroma with layers of chicken oil and soy sauce. I usually don’t eat shoyu ramen, but I was moved by the first bite. The chashu, made from TOKYO X and another type, was also delicious. Moreover, the wontons included both pork and chicken, with the chicken wonton being particularly juicy and incredibly tasty. The noodles were thin and chewy, just to my liking.Soon after, I received the vegetable rice. I thought it would just be white rice topped with vegetables, but it turned out to be a gentle, flavorful sauce that was perfect as a palate cleanser. The rice was cooked in a pot, which showed their commitment to quality.Looking around, I noticed several people ordering two types of ramen along with rice dishes. Given that it’s a hard-to-reserve restaurant and quite far away, I thought it might be worth trying two types. On my way out, I bought the souvenir ramen I had reserved in advance and the bulk chashu made from TOKYO X that I purchased on the day.Overall, I was extremely satisfied. The all-inclusive option is JPY 3,000, which is pricey, but definitely worth it! Next time, I’d like to try the salt ramen and also challenge myself to have two types of ramen!
