I had a business trip to Toyama and was looking for a Japanese restaurant that I could visit alone, so I made a reservation for lunch at Oryori Fujii and decided to arrive in Toyama the day before!I had wanted to visit Fujii for a while, so I arrived a bit early and found my favorite Japanese sake, Masu-sen, next door. I spent some time looking at the sake before my meal began. They serve it in shots!*Location: 93 Higashi-Iwase-machi, Toyama City, Toyama Prefecture *Access: 10-minute walk from Toyama Chitetsu Toyama Port Line, Keirinjo-mae Station ■ The Tabelog Award 2026 Silver Winner ■ Selected as one of the Top 100 Japanese Restaurants in WEST by Tabelog 2025 ■ Tabelog rating at the time of visit: 4.39 As I entered the restaurant, I was guided to a wonderful counter seat with a view of the beautiful garden! Here’s what I enjoyed (including one drink): *Yamada Nishiki Junmai Daiginjo, 35% polished rice -Platinum heat-treated, half serving ● Lotus Tofu served in a helmet-shaped container ● White Shrimp Yuba ● Sashimi -Nanao Bay natural Akagai (red clam) -Sea Bream from Toyama Bay *Junmai Ginjo Masu-sen ● Himi's natural Masuzushi (sushi with trout) in stick form -One served raw and one grilled ● Hassun (seasonal appetizer) -Fish paste and egg -Snap peas -Chimaki with flounder marinated in vinegar -Jako (dried young sardines) with Man-gaji pepper -Sazae (turban shell) from Shinminato -Fava beans -Monaka (wafer cake) *Masu-sen Tsuu Junmai, 2 years aged ● Grilled Sakura Masu (cherry salmon) over charcoal ● New potatoes with okra and sweet shrimp ● New onions ● Rice ● Platinum ice cream ● Wagashi (Japanese sweets) - Kashiwa Mochi Here are my impressions! The hospitality from the head chef, his apprentices, and the staff was truly wonderful! The restaurant's garden and the fantastic view from the counter provided a relaxing atmosphere! The dishes were made with seasonal, high-quality ingredients from Toyama and were incredibly delicious! Especially the large Akagai was so much better than the ones I’ve had in Tokyo or Osaka! There was a great variety of Masu-sen sake to enjoy as well! I definitely want to return during the winter when Himi's yellowtail is in season!☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★ Thank you for visiting and reading until the end!
