I used to visit Yassan frequently during the previous owner's time, but it had been a while since my last visit. *Location: 347 Gionmachi Kitagawa, Higashiyama Ward, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture *Access: 8-minute walk from Gion Shijo Station, Keihan Electric Railway ■ Tabelog Award 2026 Bronze Winner ■ Tabelog rating at the time of visit: 4.17 *Arrived at 5:10 PM and got a waiting number! I sat in the waiting area in front of the restaurant. The head lady of the restaurant arrived early, which was nice! Haha I chatted with her while having a smoke outside. *Opened at 5:53 PM. Although there was a line, everyone was let in. I sat right in front of the simmering pot near the head lady at the counter! What I ordered: *Started with a large bottle of beer! ● Pickled cucumbers ● Cold oxtail soup with grated yam ◎ Started with raw meat Served with green onions and mustard ● Tongue sashimi ● Heart sashimi with garlic ● Lean meat sashimi with egg yolk ● Blanched tripe with ponzu After eating, I raised my small plate above the counter! Grilled items: ● Skirt steak with sauce ● Liver ◯ Green salad ◯ Steamed garlic with plum paste ● Braised oxtail My thoughts after finishing: First, I felt a wave of nostalgia! The raw meat was incredibly delicious, especially the tongue and lean meat sashimi. It was great to catch up with the head lady after such a long time. Unfortunately, I couldn't take photos of the raw meat as it was not allowed. At 7 PM, I finished my meal in just over an hour, and the bill came to JPY 14,000. I’d love to drop by again casually!
