This restaurant is ranked number one in the curry category on Tabelog nationwide. I had always wanted to visit, and since I had business in Ogikubo, I knew I had to stop by no matter what. So, I braved the heavy rain and prepared to wait two hours to reach the restaurant. Perhaps due to the rain, there was only one group ahead of me. After about an hour, I was allowed inside. What luck! The restaurant has an old-fashioned coffee shop vibe, with no pretentiousness despite its top ranking. The hospitality of letting me in early was also wonderful. The menu features European-style curry made with Wagyu beef. There were various toppings available, but I decided to try the first bowl without any. I ordered the Wagyu Beef Java Curry, which is referred to as spicy curry in the Showa era. I haven't heard that term in a while. The curry had a hint of sweetness rather than being overly spicy, with flavors reminiscent of medicinal cuisine. I could sense a unique freshness, possibly from fennel seeds or mustard seeds. It's no wonder it's ranked number one nationwide; the complexity and depth of flavor are unparalleled. I was also intrigued by the massive beef tongue curry next to me, made with rare Japanese beef tongue. I definitely want to try that next time. While Indian curry is great, this was a new discovery filled with Japanese flair!
