I visited the most famous curry restaurant in Japan, "SPICY CURRY Roka." I've tried various collaboration products, including the bento box from the Seven collaboration, and I remember them all being delicious! This place has been at the top of my "must-visit" list for a long time. I've seen the owner on many curry-related ranking shows, including the recent "Hitasura Tameshite Ranking." During a segment where they sampled commercial curries, I was impressed by their analytical skills regarding cooking methods and spice combinations. They truly have a "divine palate"—a genius! I arrived on a weekday at 8:50 AM, and there were already about 35 people in line. At Roka, they operate on a reservation-only basis. You can start signing in at 9:30 AM (and if they have evening service, you can also sign in at 4:00 PM). I signed in a bit early. From the front of the line, I communicated my preferred times: "10:50, 11:30, 12:10, 13:00, 13:40, 14:20." I chose the 13:00 slot. For the next four hours, I wandered around Shinjuku and visited chocoZAP to prepare for my meal. I returned at 12:55 PM and was called in order of my sign-in. The owner explained the curries and took orders in the same order. I ordered: "Roka Plate" for JPY 1250 + JPY 200 for the limited curry, which included a mix of Lu Rou Fan (braised pork rice) and the limited "Chilled Tomato Tantan Curry with Tomato Vinaigrette Sauce." I also got a "Choi Curry" for JPY 400, which was a separate plate of Roka Chicken Curry. And a "Lassi" for JPY 400, served in a stylish ceramic bowl. The dishes were served in the order of sign-in, with the owner personally delivering each one. It was a one-person operation, but everything ran so smoothly! Even when the phone rang, they handled it without missing a beat. They also assisted customers picking up bento boxes, which were ready when they arrived. I could never replicate that level of efficiency—it's impressive! Now, onto the food... it was incredibly delicious! The "Lu Rou Fan" had a delightful sweetness and the aroma of star anise—so tasty! The "Tomato Curry" had a nice acidity from the tomatoes and a wonderful spice aroma, and it was a "chilled curry"! The "Roka Chicken Curry" was a bit spicy with generous chunks of chicken. Even the "Choi Curry" was satisfying. The "Lassi" was quite thick and creamy. There was some spice sprinkled on top, but I couldn't identify it—it had a refreshing aroma. It seems there are many regulars who come several times a week, and I completely understand why. Due to its location and timing, it's not easy for me to visit frequently, but I definitely want to come back! It was delicious!
