I visited Iida Shoten for the first time in a while. In the past, it was known for its early morning ticket distribution system, so I always thought of it as a place to go after staying overnight in Odawara. However, thanks to their transition to a completely online reservation system a few years ago, the time and physical effort required to visit have significantly decreased. As long as you understand the tips for securing a reservation, you can manage to get a seat. This time, I made a reservation while on a trip to Shizuoka.I ordered the wonton shoyu ramen and tsukemen. The shoyu ramen that arrived first was a work of art, with a deep-colored broth beautifully topped with golden chicken oil, perfectly folded noodles, and luxurious wontons. Taking a sip of the broth, I was greeted with the rich umami and depth of high-quality jidori chicken, perfectly complemented by the vibrant aroma and rich finish of carefully selected fresh soy sauce. The homemade, delicate thin noodles had an astonishingly smooth texture, carrying the broth's flavors effortlessly to my palate. The meat-filled wontons with their exquisite skin texture were exceptional, and the overall quality of the dish was truly overwhelming.To be honest, compared to the shocking and overwhelming experience I had years ago when I first tasted this, I might not feel as surprised now, perhaps because I have become accustomed to this style of flavor. Nevertheless, the level of skill and quality of ingredients conveyed in every bite is unparalleled. In today's ramen world, it’s clear why ramen chefs across the country look to this place for inspiration and try to emulate its flavors and atmosphere. Every element is finely honed, creating an unmatched excellence.While the price point for a bowl of ramen is on the higher end, many might feel it exceeds the realm of everyday dining. However, if you can experience this unique and exquisite culinary journey, it certainly offers value beyond its price as a special event during your travels. It was a great meal.
