In Japan, everyone has their own idea of the "best tempura restaurant ever." Some swear by Takeya, while others prefer Soba no Ji, Asanuma, or Kusunoki. Each person has their own top choice in their heart. For me, the unwavering number one is "Naruse" in Shizuoka. It's not just the incredible frying technique that involves cooking at low temperatures and finishing at high heat; what truly captivates me is the love for the local Shizuoka produce. The vibrant vegetables harvested that day and the exquisite fish fried to perfection are unmatched. The freshness and aroma that burst in your mouth are honestly at a level you won't find in Tokyo. That's why, every time I take the Shinkansen to visit, I am greeted with a different experience, and each visit brings new excitement. It's not just about enjoying delicious food; it feels like I'm also savoring the chef's passion and the essence of the region. Every time I go to Naruse, I am reminded of how deep and warm tempura can be.
