I visited the restaurant around noon on a holiday. During my previous reservation, the owner, Mr. Sugiyama, kindly suggested changing the date due to a typhoon. I am grateful for that. This restaurant is located in a quiet residential area of Yaizu and is renowned for its Japanese cuisine that beautifully reflects the changing seasons in each dish. The calm atmosphere, combined with dishes featuring local fish, offers a warm and inviting hospitality without being overly formal. The name "Onjaku" perfectly embodies the gentle and elegant experience that warms the hearts of its visitors.~Omakase Course~Appetizer ⚫︎ Grilled Horse Mackerel from Yaizu Boiled Molokhia ⚫︎ Squid from Yaizu, Jindo Ika Served with homemade salt, Mizuna, and Wasabi Soup ⚫︎ Flower Sea Bream from Yaizu, Winter Melon Sashimi ⚫︎ Meichidai, a representative white fish of summer Fried Dish ⚫︎ Fried Green Eggplant with White Miso Main Dish ⚫︎ Abalone and Liver Rice Palate Cleanser ⚫︎ Raw Pumpkin, Urin, and Sesame Vinegar Dressing Main Dish ⚫︎ Hamana Lake Eel, Wrapped Eel Bake with Sansho and Burdock Rolled, Grilled, with Homemade Doubanjiang Kaoya-Ping, Peking Duck Skin ⚫︎ Corn Rice Palate Cleanser ⚫︎ Nagaimo Somen Simmered Dish ⚫︎ Shimizu Orido Eggplant with Duck Sauce and Black Shichimi Rice, Soup, and Pickles ⚫︎ Sea Bream and Sweet Greens Rice with Chili ⚫︎ Molokhia Miso Soup ⚫︎ Pickled Houbou Rice ⚫︎ Clam Somen with Kuzu Dashi and Fresh Pepper Dessert ⚫︎ Peach Jelly with Black Tea ⚫︎ Zunda Jade Rice Cake Each dish showcased local fish and ingredients, but the abalone liver rice and eel dish were exceptional. According to Mr. Sugiyama, this year's abalone has a stronger umami than usual, and the flavor of the abalone meat combined with the richness of the liver was exquisite. The eel dish, being rich in fat, surprised me with the idea of wrapping it in Kaoya-Ping. Once again, my senses were delighted, and I left completely satisfied, looking forward to my next visit. I would love to return to this restaurant when I visit Yaizu City in Shizuoka Prefecture.
