On a May evening, the four of us were seated at a table in Yakiniku Seiryuuen. When it came time to order, I pretended to be wise and hesitated just a bit on the quantity of salt-grilled tongue I was about to order. The thought of ordering for ten people crossed my mind, and I unconsciously hit the brakes. It only took a few minutes, until the meat started sizzling on the grill, for me to realize that was a mistake. The grilled tongue, like a cunning con artist, stole our reason away, and before we knew it, the eight servings had vanished in no time. "We should have ordered more," someone murmured, and I could only smile wryly. In short, my modest consideration was utterly powerless against that overwhelming umami. The May breeze felt a little bittersweet. I should have ordered for ten. In the end, perhaps life is just a series of such moments.
