Arriving in Karatsu on a weekday, I explored the town. It felt deserted—perhaps due to the typhoon. I headed to Caravan, a Tabelog top-rated Teppan-yaki restaurant with a score over 4, so my expectations were high. The owner greeted me with, "Today, it's just you and me in a one-on-one challenge," which puzzled me until I learned that I was the only customer due to cancellations from the typhoon. Since they offered an all-you-can-drink option, I decided to indulge.Dining alone usually means staring at my phone, but the owner's engaging conversation was captivating. He shared his philosophical view that deliciousness varies from person to person, while also inquiring about my favorite cuts of meat and preferred cooking levels. It made sense why Tabelog mentioned a dining time of two and a half hours.We started with seared Saga beef, which was melt-in-your-mouth delicious. The owner initially seemed grumpy, but as the evening progressed, he became more relaxed and started to resemble Sato Jiro. As a bonus, I was treated to some shadow beef, and he even saw me off at the end of the night. I returned to my hotel at midnight, having enjoyed a rich and delightful evening in Karatsu.
