I'm in the middle of reviewing my April trip to Kyoto, but I wanted to share a review of a private gathering that took place in Ginza first.Ginza, Tokyo, is about an hour away from my home by train, but since I only visit the city a few times a year, I'm not familiar with the area at all. I didn't know how to transfer trains, so my daughter helped me, and I arrived safely at Exit 8 of Higashi-Ginza Station about 30 minutes before the event started. While walking and looking for the building with my smartphone app in hand, I was relieved to run into the host and the chef couple who were participants in the gathering. The restaurant is located on the second floor of the building. As soon as the door opened, I felt like I had entered another world. A magnificent large L-shaped counter caught my eye.On a personal note, my husband is not a fan of French cuisine, so we rarely have the opportunity to visit French restaurants. As the years go by, I find that I can eat less and less. Before coming here, I mentioned, "I’m going to a private gathering at Ginza's Ginza Ooishi," and a follower who had been here warned me, "Are you sure, ff? The portions are huge!" This made me a bit apprehensive. However, Chef Ooishi was attentive and checked with everyone about the portion sizes before the meal began and throughout the course, which eased my worries. He also takes care to reduce the amount of butter in his dishes based on his experiences at other restaurants and feedback from customers, ensuring that we can enjoy the meal until the end.I have included photos of each dish with descriptions, so please refer to those.Every dish was delightful, but I particularly enjoyed the sweetfish spring rolls, cucumber soup, and curry rice. The slight bitterness of the sweetfish combined with the crispy potatoes and the fragrant cucumber soup was wonderful. The curry, which was a vegetable purée with added curry aroma and flavor, was said to have little spiciness, and I completely agree. I loved this curry so much that I want to learn how to recreate it.I preferred the lamb cooked in rock salt, and the accompanying zucchini ratatouille was very delicious and memorable. I found myself wanting more of the watermelon juice, and the soup de fruits (peach-flavored) also left a lasting impression. Although I'm not particularly fond of foie gras, it was beautifully paired with a generous amount of American cherries, resulting in a light and delicious dish.To finish, I chose a herbal tea (almond oolong tea) that enveloped me in a sweet almond aroma, which was irresistible for someone like me who loves almonds. My choices may differ from others due to my limited experience with French cuisine, so I hope you understand...Thank you to the organizer for inviting me to such a pleasant, delicious, and wonderful gathering, and to everyone who joined, including Chef Ooishi and the staff. I thoroughly enjoyed the meal. It was a great meal!
