I was fortunate enough to secure a lunch reservation at a restaurant I had always wanted to visit, so I took a day off to check it out.Upon arriving at the B1F location right at opening time, I was warmly welcomed, which eased my initial nerves.Since it was lunchtime, I ordered Oolong tea, and the meal began. The first dish was edamame, and I was immediately captivated by its aroma. Each appetizer was delicious, clearly made with care. I was particularly impressed by the katsuo, which had a wonderfully crispy skin. For the sushi, I enjoyed three types of tuna: akami (lean), chutoro (medium fatty), and otoro (fatty). It was fascinating to see how different the flavors were even within the same fish, and the richness of the otoro was especially memorable without being overwhelming. The large shrimp was also excellent, and the delicately seasoned ikura (salmon roe) was delightful. The generous assortment of sushi allowed me to truly savor the joy of eating sushi. However, the standout dish for me was the abalone zosui (rice porridge). The rich broth, concentrated with the umami of abalone, was simply amazing. The sushi chef, Mr. Usui, was very friendly and had a great sense of humor. He encouraged me to promote the restaurant and even allowed me to take photos of the dishes, making for a wonderful experience.I know reservations can be hard to come by, but I definitely hope to find another opportunity to visit again. It was a great meal.*This was my 2,400th visit since starting Tabelog, and it was particularly meaningful to visit Sushi Arai, which received the Tabelog Award 2026 Gold.
