Onkee Korean Grill House offers a more contemporary approach that feels thoughtful and well executed.
Located on the second floor of Ward Village’s Kō‘ula Shops, the space sets a calm tone with warm materials and an open dining room. Many of the details, from the tableware to the ceramics, come from Korea, which adds a nice sense of continuity to the experience.
We came by for lunch and really enjoyed it. Only the kalbi short ribs are marinated, while the other cuts are seasoned lightly and grilled cleanly to highlight the quality of the meat. Instead of sauces, the table is set with simple sea salts, which keeps the flavors clear and focused. The banchan rounds out the meal without overwhelming it.
Service is polished and attentive, and the pacing makes it an easy place to sit and enjoy your meal. There’s a wide selection of meats, and everything we tried was handled with love and care.
