Hong Kong once had hundreds of dai pai dongs, the open air food stalls that defined the city’s street food culture. Today only a handful remain, which makes a place like @penglengjenghk so interesting.

Located in SoHo, Peng Leng Jeng is a lively tribute to that disappearing style of cooking and dining. The name roughly translates to “cheap, beautiful, and good,” a Cantonese phrase locals use to describe something that delivers great value.

The menu leans into classic Cantonese comfort dishes like black pepper beef with potatoes, salt and pepper squid, and clams in black bean sauce, all cooked over high heat with plenty of wok hei.

I had a great time here. The food is fun, flavorful, and the whole place has a playful energy that makes it easy to settle in and share a table full of dishes. Huge thanks to Chefs Archan & Gilbert for the amazing hospitality! 🙏🏻💛
