I had been wanting to visit Tori Shige, a motsuyaki restaurant in Shinjuku, for a long time.Unlike typical dive bars, this place exudes a sense of elegance.I had heard that it’s hard to get a reservation during early hours, so I arrived later and was able to walk in without a reservation. The first floor has only counter seating, and since I came alone, I was seated there. The second floor seemed quite lively, with cheerful voices spilling down the stairs.I ordered skewers a la carte. The starting price is a bold JPY 400.The premium shiro (pork belly) and premium tan (beef tongue) are JPY 1300.One unique feature of this restaurant is the narrow width of the skewers. However, when the premium tan arrived, I was a bit taken aback because it was just one piece. It was tender and delicious, though. What stands out the most is the premium shiro. It was incredibly tender, with no unpleasant odor, and absolutely delicious.I wonder if there’s anywhere in Tokyo that serves better. And then there’s the stuffed bell pepper, said to be the origin of this dish.It was very juicy and tasty.
