The 2nd stop of our New Haven pizza tour – Zuppardi's Apizza, which was started by Italian bread-baker Dominic Zuppardi back in 1932. No trip here is complete without having the white clam pie. Even though it was invented by Frank Pepe’s, many say that the best white clam pie is served right here at Zuppardi’s.
They freshly shuck every one of the littleneck clams after you order your pizza, and then add fresh garlic, olive oil, dried oregano, and cracked red pepper. In addition to the clam pie, we also ordered the Zuppardi’s classic sausage and mozzarella pie, which is as good as pizzeria sausage gets with homemade fennel sausage. ?
