Unagi over rice ? Also served with a side of soup and pickles. We prefer this style of unagi with the strong smoky char. ?

There's unagi and then there's THE unagi at Tashiro (田代) in the outskirts of Nagoya. It's hands down the best we've had anywhere in Japan. We arrived 1.5 hours before the shop opened and there was already someone waiting ahead of us. By the time they opened, it was already a 3 hour wait. And this was on a weekday. As a diner, you get to see the entire process from the filleting, skewering, and grilling of the eel right up to the point where it's served in a bowl. It was smoky perfection... Inside the restaurant, there are signatures hanging on the wall from famous visitors. ⭐️
