Trattoria da Amerigo 1934 - Savigno (Italy)
@amerigo1934 is a restaurant that will warm the hearts of anyone willing to drive up into the mountains towards the peaceful little town of Savigno.

If the friendly price-tag, the homey atmosphere and the bucolic landscape are not enough reasons for you to come here, do it for the food. Amerigo is one of the best trattorias in all of Emilia Romagna, serving hearty dishes made with high quality local products. One of which stands out from the rest: truffles.
Very typical in the hills of Bologna, this magical ingredient is sourced locally and put on the spotlight here in a very intelligent manner that really gets the best out of it in every bit.
The menu consists of both classic and innovative dishes, with a date on the side of each one indicating the year that it was introduced at the restaurant. Naturally, if a dish was first put on the menu decades ago and still is there, it is definitely worth trying.
To name a few stand outs from a meal that had basically no lows, tigelle with Parmigiano Reggiano gelato (!) and balsamic vinegar was a spectacular starter, as was the gnocchi al tartufo - that I found very rich and creamy.
Amerigo is an institution. A typical Italian trattoria with great regional food, where its rustic simplicity makes you want to return as soon as you start your drive downhill.

before heading back to bologna from modena, we stopped by this legendary institution for another dinner and stay. a trattoria serving dishes of the region, but also due to its unique geography located in the hills, it has access to a lot of local game meat from its surroundings.

opted for their signatures throughout the menu developed throughout their opening, from the beef tartare and the parmigiano gelato on flatbread which i loved. they are also very well known for their tagiatelle bolognese, which was one of the most balanced version i’ve had, as they tend to either be too meaty for me or too tomato, this was for me of the perfect balance. the tortellini filled with parmigiano served with mora proscuitto was also nice. we also ordered the fallow deer smoked in cherry and pear wood which was unique, and the other signature of the whipped ‘amerigo’ egg which wasn’t bad but can be skipped.
ended with my favourite ricotta with grape must (sweet juices of balsamic vinegar pre-fermentation) and a milk and cream gelato with balsamic vinegar. a very solid spot, with trekking out once to sample the goods but not memorable enough for me to keep going back especially with its distance away from the main cities.
✨tiegelle flatbread with parmigiano gelato & balsamic vinegar (€11)
bianca modenese cow raw meat, scorzone black truffle (€17)
✨tagliatelle bolognese with meat ragu (€16)
✨tortelli filled with parmigianno served with mora proscuitto cooked in wood oven (€17)
appenine fallow deer leg lightly smoked with cherry and pear wood (€24)
whipped amerigo egg cooked in the oven and egg yolk mimosa (€20)
✨soft ricotta with saba cooked must (€9)
milk & cream gelato with traditional balsamic vinegar (€9)

Finally made it to @amerigo1934! A charming unassuming trattoria located 45 minutes from Bologna, the restaurant has been serving traditional cuisine of the region since 80 years ago. They’re best known for for their classic tagliatelle in ragu and tortellini in broth, but new creations have been added over time such as the popular whipped “Amerigo” egg with green asparagus. Don’t miss the egg yolk gelato and my favorite - milk gelato with balsamic vinegar!

The restaurant also runs a locanda nearby with 5 rooms in an old stone building. The rooms are simple and rustic, but full of character. We stayed in room #3 which was where wood was once stored in the house. A sweet Italian breakfast spread was also included in the stay!
