Don’t worry, you’ll still get the cochon de lait po-boy at @jazzfest , and @fqfest , and @poboyfest and other events around town — and now maybe even in your backyard.
After 22 years, the Walker family has closed their barbecue restaurant in LIttle Woods.
The small takeout spot by the levee in New Orleans East was the insider’s spot to find the epic po-boy year-round.
As Jonathan Walker told me though:
“The restaurant is closed, but the smoker is still going.”
The family is “shifting gears,” with he and his parents Skip and Wanda ramping up for more catering, from Saints tailgates to more events. The parents are in their late 70s now, and it’s time.
The family started out in catering back in 1992 and made the leap to Jazz Fest in 2000, popularizing the idea of Cajun cochon de lait for successive generations.
You can find them next out on Oak Street at Po-boy Fest on Nov. 8. Now, if I can somehow top mine with cracklin’ again.
