I found that Matsumoto has many eel restaurants, but this one stood out with its high rating on Tabelog, so I made a reservation and visited. My rice bowl arrived about 20 minutes after ordering. The eel was indeed delicious, but it seems that the course meals received particularly high praise, so I'm not sure how the lunch-only eel rice bowl is rated by other customers. The eel was thick, with a crispy exterior and a fluffy interior. It wasn't as soft as the Kanto style, nor did it have the grilled texture of the Kansai style; it was perfectly cooked, striking a balance between the two.The atmosphere of the building was wonderful, exuding a sense of history. While eel is typically served with a liver soup, here it came with a miso soup featuring nameko mushrooms. I thought that was a nice touch.
