I was recommended by a friend to visit "Tori Shige" in Shinjuku. At first glance, it has a casual atmosphere, but the quality of each skewer is exceptional, giving it the impression of a "famous yakitori restaurant" rather than just a regular place. What I tried included:☑︎ Special Tongue☑︎ Special Pork Belly☑︎ Special Kidneys☑︎ Special Grilled Cheek☑︎ Liver☑︎ Heart☑︎ Stuffed Bell Peppers☑︎ Shiitake Mushrooms☑︎ Eggplant☑︎ Shishito Peppers☑︎ Sukiyaki Rice, among others. The liver, in particular, left a strong impression. It was cooked to perfection, creamy and smooth on the inside, with no unpleasant odor—just a rich umami flavor filling my mouth. The famous special pork belly was also outstanding. The fat was sweet without being greasy, and its bouncy texture combined with the expanding umami flavor was addictive.Even the vegetable skewers were surprisingly delicious; the shiitake mushrooms were juicy and aromatic, while the eggplant had a melt-in-your-mouth texture, and the seasoning was perfectly suited to each item. The sukiyaki rice at the end is a must-order dish. In fact, I recommend ordering any rice dish. The sweet and savory braised beef paired excellently with the rich egg yolk and slightly firmer rice, making it impossible to put down my chopsticks until the very end.Every dish showcased not only perfect grilling but also an exquisite use of salt and sauce, reflecting the high skill of the chef. The restaurant has two floors with plenty of seating and a lively atmosphere. The service was excellent, and the chef personally saw us off as we left, ensuring a pleasant experience until the very end.Rather than a stylish yakitori restaurant, it’s a place where you can casually enjoy truly delicious skewers. If you’re ever in Shinjuku and unsure where to go for yakitori, this is a place I would love to visit again.
