During my last visit, I made a reservation for the abalone udon season, and I was really looking forward to it! My daughter loves it too, so it felt like a little girls' gathering or a catch-up session, which made the hot weather worthwhile. With excitement, we headed to Seizan. This restaurant truly excels at stripping away the unnecessary, allowing the flavors of the ingredients and the dashi to permeate your body beautifully. Here’s what we enjoyed:◆ Appetizer: Thinly sliced octopus from Akashi, served on top of Kaga vegetables, specifically thick cucumbers.◆ Soup: A soup made with akou (red sea bream), garnished with vegetables tied together, which you can unravel with your chopsticks.◆ Sashimi: Grilled and chilled conger eel, served warm with plum sauce and flavored soy sauce, beautifully presented on a lotus leaf.◆ Special: Abalone Udon - This was the highlight of our visit! The Inaniwa udon, abalone, sea urchin, and liver sauce combined perfectly. It was an exceptional dish that left me speechless.◆ Grilled Dish: Grilled sweet sea bream with crispy fried green beans and fish scales, served with a white sesame dressing. The crunchy texture and rich sesame flavor were delightful.◆ Fried Dish: Hair crab stuffed with sweet long peppers from Fushimi. It was my first time trying this, and while I thought it could have had more crab filling, it was still quite delicious.◆ Simmered Dish: Shark fin with winter melon, delicately flavored with black seven spice, showcasing the essence of Seizan.◆ Main Course: Unaju (grilled eel over rice) - The rice was cooked a bit firmer, and the chef, who trained in Gifu, grilled the skin to a crisp, Kansai-style finish. While it didn’t have the fluffiness typical of Kanto-style, the seasoning was undeniably delicious.◆ Dessert: Miyazaki mango served with wasanbon cream underneath. The sweetness and aroma were concentrated, melting refreshingly in my mouth.I’ve visited Seizan each season, and once again, I felt it was a wonderful restaurant that maintains its specialties while never disappointing expectations. I believe it will continue to be a place I frequent as long as I’m able!
